Sentences

WRITING
We are learning about what makes a sentence, so we know where our sentence starts and use a captial letter, and where our sentence ends and use one of the 3 full stop brothers (. ! ?).

A sentence has a who and a do. We can stretch a sentence by adding when, where or how.

Today we wrote a sentence about what we would eat for a midnight snack! We stretched our sentence and realised we could move the 'when', 'where' and 'how' to different places within the sentence. It was fun moving ourselves around in our sentence. We just had to watch that if we moved one part of the sentence to the front, we had to give the first word a capital. We chose the order that made the most sense and that we liked the sound of the most. Here it is below. Mila (who was in charge of the full stop), your midnight snack sounds very sneaky! Looking forward to reading the finished stories A5!

VOWELS ARE VERY SPECIAL LETTERS!

 ink, insects and an instrument

Front CoverOur Big Book this week is called 'The Icky Sticky Trap'. It is a story about subtraction. This is a word we didn't know the meaning of this morning. We are going to use the story as a way to figure out what it means. We did figure out that 'an icky sticky trap' is another way of saying 'a web'. Here is an AMAZING video of one of God's creations making an equally AMAZING creation itself!

Who would have thought insects could be so delicious!
We made insects. We made sure we made them with three body parts; a head, a thorax and a abdomen. We added 6 legs and a pair of antennae. Then we labeled our 3D model.

Value Heroes

Congratulations A5 on collectively adding value to our class at least 400 times last week! With 400 points we earnt a 350+ point award. We love this reward because it is a soft toy at school for a day, or as we like to call them 'our softies'.

Here we are with our softies. They love to learn with us and we love to learn with them!

SYLLABLES

SYLLABLES
We are learning to identify, isolate and even delete syllables to help us sound out words when we are writing. It will also help us with our reading.

Every word has at least one syllable. Every syllable has one vowel sound. Isabelle, Abigail and Sione are doing a great job of working together to sort the words into the number of syllables they have.
This word must have three syllables. I can see three playing cards. One for each syllable.

This word must have four syllables. I can see four playing cards. One for each syllable.

Sione is drumming the number of beats (syllables) his word has. Isabelle is clapping the beats. Abigail is about to put down a playing card for each beat (syllable) in the word.

WE LOVE, WE LEARN!

In A5 we help each other! That's what superheroes do.
We are learning that as well as getting help from adults, we can help each other too! Edrei you are doing an awesome job. Well done James for asking for help. That's what superheroes do!
