Apostrophes have two jobs. Watch out for Mr Apostrophe. Don't be fooled by his smile. In truth, he is a thief! We have caught him red handed! When he is thieving we call these words CONTRACTIONS.
Contractions are like a worm when it moves. Extend, contract, extend, contract. The two words 'I' and 'am' (extend) are the same 'worm' as I'm (contract). Both carry the same meaning.
I am a wiggly worm.
I'm a wiggly worm.
We are going to look at Mr Apostrophe's second job in a few weeks, after we learn to identify him at his thieving tricks!
